Dr. Carin Sanchez grew up in Metairie, Louisiana, attending the Academy of the Sacred Heart for thirteen years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Emory University in Atlanta. Before medical school, she spent two years in Emory's Department of Psychiatry conducting research on depression and anxiety. She returned to New Orleans to attend LSU School of Medicine, then headed to Houston for a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency. Dr. Sanchez finished that training in 2008 and stayed on an additional year as Chief Resident at the University of Texas. She holds board certification in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
Back in New Orleans, Dr. Sanchez spent two years at the Tulane University student health clinic before joining East Jefferson General Hospital as a hospitalist for over four years. That hospital work sharpened her conviction that medicine works best when doctors build lasting relationships with their patients. She founded Vieux Care to practice medicine on those terms. She and her husband, Dr. Trey Sands, a Tulane-trained plastic surgeon, are parents of three boys.
