About

Dr. Becca Summers earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2006, following undergraduate study at Haverford College. She completed her Internal Medicine residency across Boston Medical Center and Montefiore Medical Center, then spent a year with the University of North Carolina Project in Lilongwe, Malawi before returning to New York for an Infectious Disease fellowship at NYU. She holds board certification in both Internal Medicine, since 2009, and Infectious Disease, since 2014.

After more than a decade practicing primary care and infectious disease in the boroughs of New York City, Dr. Summers completed her Somatic Experiencing Practitioner training between 2020 and 2022, earning her SEP credential in 2023. She also trained as a Safe and Sound Protocol Provider, holds Reiki I and II Usui attunements, and completed a Master Course in Medical Syndromes and Long COVID in 2023. She recently spent a year in a headache and neurology practice, deepening her skills in migraine diagnosis and management. Her own experience with a post-infectious autoimmune disease after a parasitic reinfection in Malawi, and her healing from shock PTSD during the 2021 COVID delta surge, shaped her understanding of how trauma and infection intersect with chronic illness. Dr. Summers developed the Embodied Medicine Pathway and coined the term 'Threat Vortex' to describe the interplay of pathogens, trauma, and environmental stress that keeps the body in a threat-response state. She lives in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, where she also organizes community groups for the Safe and Sound Protocol. Her clinical passions include Long COVID, post-infectious syndromes, nervous system regulation, and fertility and perinatal support.

She works well with patients managing autoimmune disease, migraine, chronic pain, or PTSD who want to address nervous system regulation alongside medical treatment. Those seeking support through fertility challenges, the perinatal period, or postpartum recovery benefit from her specialized focus in that area. Patients open to an integrative, body-centered approach will find her practice a natural fit.

Dr. Summers uses a combination of medical management and nervous system regulation techniques to support Long COVID recovery. She draws on Somatic Experiencing and the Safe and Sound Protocol, both of which she deploys in individual sessions and small group settings specifically for Long COVID patients. She completed a Master Course in Medical Syndromes and Long COVID in 2023 and spent a year in a headache and neurology practice developing additional clinical tools relevant to Long COVID symptoms.

Dr. Summers developed the Embodied Medicine Pathway as a comprehensive care approach that combines medical evaluation, Somatic Experiencing, and myofascial work. It starts with a Stage 1 intake at $444, which includes a full medical examination, history review, and a first Somatic Experiencing session. Two monthly tiers follow: Tier 1 Intensive at $864 per month and Tier 2 Foundations at $564 per month. The pathway works best with a minimum three-month commitment to support gradual nervous system regulation.

Dr. Summers coined the term Threat Vortex to describe a physiologic dynamic in which infectious pathogens, trauma effects, symptoms, and environmental influences interact to keep the body in a persistent protective state. The Embodied Medicine Pathway directly addresses and resolves components of this dynamic. It is a central framework in how Dr. Summers understands and treats chronic illness.

Yes. Dr. Summers offers standalone Somatic Experiencing sessions for patients who want somatic work outside of a full medical membership. Sessions run 60 minutes, with some scheduled at 85 minutes. Sliding scale fees are available on request for SE sessions.
